WNA is pleased to announce Sheridan Memorial Hospital as the 2018 recipient of the WNA Innovation Award. The award acknowledges a health system or individual hospital for an innovative practice that improves nursing and patient outcomes.
Sheridan Memorial Hospital was chosen for the award for their Integrated Infusion Management System Utilizing Infusion Pumps, PCA Pumps, and Alarm Forwarding.
Sheridan Memorial Hospital Pharmacy Manager, Kirsi Ludwig, explains the system: “The project for the auto-pump programming and infusion documentation started for regular infusion pumps (not PCA or epidural) in ICCU, and then expanded to the rest of the hospital. The rollout was started in ICCU because the department had a small staff, and this is the area that uses the largest assortment of infusions. We chose to work through issues with orders and documentation while getting feedback from the bedside end users. These lessons were then leveraged for other units.”
